Winter racing in Southern California is something you have to enjoy. The perfect conditions and 80-degree temperatures were the hallmark of the Shimano Winter Series at Southridge France in Fontana. It’s wonderful that families can attend the event. Everyone can enjoy the park and race while mommy or daddy race on the difficult courses.
CROSS-COUNTRY A great field of pros battled it out in the cross-country race. Sean Donovan (Cytomax/KHS) was hot off his podium finish at the Kenda Cup West race the weekend prior and set a blistering pace that no one could match.

SUPER D
Super D was a five-minute sprint from the top to the bottom of the mountain with some climbs in between. Rich Houseman, a four-cross National Champion, tried Super D and was able to join Jon Buckell on top. Buckell is a consistent performer in Super D and the downhill.

DOWNHILL
Stop #5 was the race that would set the stage for the Shimano Winter series finals. E.C. is the hotly contested Pro Mens Field. Eric Carter holds the overall lead with wins in almost all races of the series, including today’s downhill win by nearly five seconds over Jason Memmelaar. Waylon Smith ran strong for third and is currently in lock for second in the points. The winter series only uses five of the six races. KHS rider Logan Bingelli is fourth, with John Buckell in fifth Joe Lawwill and Rich Houseman in sixth. Both Lawwill, and Houseman were unable to make the opening round. If Lawwill or Houseman finish ahead Binggeli, Buckell, they could take the top two spots overall.

Joe Lawwill won 5th place on his Santa Cruz Nomad in Pro Downhill.
Waylon Smith keeps it consistent by taking 3rd in the pro downhill.
